Jessie Leigh Romigh

Born and raised in Wisconsin, Jessie grew up with a love of reading, drawing, and making up stories. Playing "pretend" was always a favorite pastime and her imagination went with her on every adventure.

After graduating with a degree in Communication from University of Wisconsin Stevens Point, Jessie worked in a variety of careers ranging from Inside Sales to Nonprofit Administration. But her imagination and creativity loose wasn't being fed. So now Jessie does what she loved to do when she was a child. She creates stories for the next generations of children to enjoy.

Currently, Jessie lives in Georgetown, Texas (just outside of Austin) with her husband Lance and their Scottish Terrier, Rosie. In addition to her writing and art, Jessie enjoys gardening, reading, cooking, and having adventures with her family.

A Little More About Me...

Favorite Children's Books

I loved Paddington, Babar, Winnie the Pooh, and Madeline when I was a little girl. As soon as I could read chapter books, I fell in love with anything that Roald Dahl wrote. As a lover of mysteries, I also loved Encyclopedia Brown and Trixie Belden.

Author/Illustrator Influences

Lorna Balian

A.A. Milne

Roald Dahl

Mo Willems

Favorite Movies

Amadeus

The Goonies

Young Frankenstein

Under the Tuscan Sun

Fears

I have been afraid of birds since I was about 9 years old. I enjoy seeing song birds in the backyard... and enjoy including them in my illustrations. But a bird gets close up or swoops, I freak out. I also have a phobia of blood and needles.

Favorite Place

Growing up, it was Rock Island, Wisconsin. These days I find that my favorite places are always more about the company I keep. A place is always great if I am surrounded by family and close friends!

Favorite Color

Blue, and sometimes Green.

Finding the whimsy and humor in my writing and illustrations is key. And if I can throw a pun (or two) in there... even better! All my illustrations are hand drawn, inked, and painted with watercolor.  I am a member of SCBWI (Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators) and currently seeking representation.
